M5 Motorway is ready for winter maintenance

AKA Alföld Koncessziós Autópálya Ltd. and the M5 Motorway Operator Company, A-WAY Ltd. have prepared their maintenance fleet for winter operation, which is ready to handle winter conditions with a regular road control service starting from 10^th November, 2021. At three operation and maintenance centres – located near Újhartyán, Kiskunfélegyháza and Balástya – the vehicles and their adapters handling the winter maintenance works were prepared and passed the inspections.

AKA Alföld Koncessziós Autópálya Ltd. and the M5 Motorway Operating Company, A-WAY Ltd., carry out tasks instructed for winter operation in accordance with their legal obligations. The motorway and the maintenance fleet are all prepared for the winter season. Training of the workforce has concluded in accordance with the operating regulations. An on-call service will be provided starting from 10^th November, 2021, up until 15^th March, 2022. Depending on weather conditions, the duration of this service can be subject of change.

The winter maintenance of the 156.6-kilometre-long motorway section is managed by three operation and maintenance centres with the help of vehicles specifically adjusted to the winter operation period. De-icing and snow removal on the motorway will be carried out by 11 dual-purpose vehicles. In addition, 6 multifunctional Unimogs capable of disseminating salt and ploughing, 3 for loading and if necessary, 8 additional rented vehicles can help with the winter operation of the motorway.

The maintenance centres are prepared for the de-icing the road surfaces of the motorway. For this purpose, 5057 tons of sodium chloride and 18 tons of calcium chloride is available in the salt storages. At each operation and maintenance centre, the service is managed by a chief supervisor in 12-hour shifts. The drivers also work in 12-hour shifts, while the dispatcher and road patrol service ensures smooth traffic conditions 24 hours a day.

In order to ensure accident-free and continuous traffic flow, the Operator surveys the condition of the motorway with raised attention on the entire road network. During the day road conditions are monitored regularly every two hours, and every four hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In order to increase traffic safety, a CCTV camera system is operating, that enable continuous traffic monitoring at interchanges and rest areas as well. Meteorological stations placed along the motorway relay the latest weather data every five minutes. The Operating Company monitors the satellite imagery combined with cloud-based data of the National Meteorological Service, which is updated every 15 minutes. In addition, travellers, who have experienced a mechanical breakdown can request help using emergency telephones which are located every two kilometres.

Accident-free traffic therefore depends on the responsibility of the drivers as well as the condition of their vehicles. In order to ensure a safe and smooth winter travel, we kindly ask everyone to prepare their car for the winter.

Road surface repair works at the offramp of the Kecskemét-North interchange

On the M5 motorway in the direction of Budapest, the offramp of the Kecskemét-North interchange at chainage 73 will be closed on November 8^thand 9^th 2021 due to road surface repair works.

Due to road surface repair works carried out on November 8^th and 9^th 2021 at the offramp of the Kecskemét-North interchange on the motorway in the direction of Budapest, leaving the interchange will not be possible for road users. Due to the closure of the interchange offramp, a diversion route will be installed, which will be indicated by yellow-colored information signs for travelers.

Information about current traffic restrictions and diversions will be continuously provided by Útinform on their website www.utinform.hu, and by AKA Ltd. on their website www.aka.hu as well as the operator – A-WAY Ltd. AKA Ltd. asks travelers to drive more carefully, keeping the speed limit on the M5 Motorway. Unforeseeable events may result in changes to the aforementioned schedule. AKA Ltd. reserves the right to modify the schedule of the maintenance works.

M5 Motorway – Bridge repair works in the proximity of Kecskemét

Bridge repair works have started on M5 Motorway in the direction of Szeged at chainage 87 on 10^th September 2021, which will end by 28^th October 2021. Due to the repair works a temporary traffic diversion is being installed between chainage 86 and 90. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

Repair works have started on 10^th September 2021 within the aforementioned section. Between 10^th September 2021 and 28^th October 2021, traffic diversion will be implemented during the bridge repair works at chainage 87, in the direction of Szeged, which also affects M5 motorway in the direction of Budapest. The diversion is being installed between chainage 86 and 90.

During the repair works, within the aforementioned section of M5 motorway in the direction of Szeged the fast lane is being diverted to the other side, thus traffic will be able to use two traffic lanes. Due to the diversions within the aforementioned section, two traffic lanes will be available for travelers in the direction of Budapest as well.

The diversion will be indicated by yellow flashing lights for road users. Speed limits of 60 and 80 km/h are to be expected within the aforementioned section, which we kindly ask to comply with.

Road surface repair works will be carried out on M5 Motorway in the proximity of Kiskunfélegyháza between 14^th and 21^th September 2021 in the direction of Budapest between chainage 99 and 106. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

The repairs will expectedly start on 14^th September 2021 on the aforementioned section. On the M5 Motorway the traffic in the direction of Budapest will be diverted from the slow lane into the fast lane with closing the slow and emergency lanes between chainage 99 and 106 km during the road surface repair works. Yellow diversion signs and road marking arrows will indicate the designated routes for road users on the temporary diversion section. The repair works will not affect any of the interchanges or rest areas.

The road surface repair works are expected to be completed by September 21^th 2021, after which road users will be able to travel on the renewed roads. Speed limits of 60 km/h and 80 km/h are to be expected within the highlighted zone, which we kindly ask to comply with. The restrictions will not affect the M5 Motorway in the direction of Szeged.

Road surface repair works conducted on the M5 Motorway in the proximity of Lajosmizse, in the direction of Szeged

Road surface repair works will be carried out on M5 Motorway at Lajosmizse interchange and rest area located near chainage 67 between 13^th September and 8^th October 2021 in the direction of Szeged. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

The repairs will expectedly start on 13^th September 2021 on the aforementioned section. During the repair works the petrol station and the entire interchange located near Lajosmizse interchange and rest area at chainage 67 will be closed between 17^th September 2021 and 24^th September 2021. Yellow diversion signs will indicate the designated routes for road users on the temporary diversion section. During the repair works the rest area and petrol station in the proximity of Inárcs and Örkény will be available for travelers.

The complete closure of the petrol station and the interchange is expected to be completed by 24^th September, 2021, after which Lajosmizse rest area and the petrol station will be operational again, and exiting the motorway will be ensured. However, entering the motorway between 22^nd September 2021 and 25^th September 2021 is only possible through the rest area. Speed limits of 40 km/h and 60 km/h are to be expected within the highlighted zone, which we kindly ask to comply with. The restrictions will not affect the M5 Motorway in the direction of Budapest.

Road surface repair works in the rest area at Kecskemét south interchange on M5 motorway

Road surface repair works will be carried out at Kecskemét south interchange located at chainage 90, M5 Motorway between 12^th July and 7^th August 2021. During the repair works, the offramp of Kecskemét south interchange and the rest area are partially available pursuant to the works scheduled. The petrol station will continue to remain accessible during this period. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repair works.

In the first phase of the road surface repair works – carried out between 12^th and 23^rd July – the rest area and the MOL petrol station will remain available to road users in the direction of Budapest. Between 24^th and 29^th July, the petrol station and the rest area can only be approached by using a diversion route.

Due to the road surface repair works, the truck parking area at Kecskemét south interchange in the direction of Budapest will also be closed between 17^th and 22^nd July. During the road surface repair works, Hetény rest area will be available for commuters instead, which is 14 km away from the temporarily closed-off parking lot.

In the last phase of the works, the interchange offramp in the direction of Budapest will be closed-off between 30^th July and 4^th August. The traffic will be diverted in the direction of Kecskemét west interchange. Yellow diversion signs will indicate the designated diversion routes for road users.

The road surface repair works are expected to be completed by 7^th August 2021, after which road users will be able to use the renewed road surfaces. During the reconstruction works the maximum speed will be limited to 40 and 60 km/h, which we kindly ask to comply with.

Road surface repair works of Kecskemét West interchange, M5 Motorway

Road surface repair works will be carried out at Kecskemét West interchange located at chainage 85, M5 Motorway between 23^rd June and 8^th July 2021 in both directions. During the repair works the on- and off ramps of Kecskemét West interchange are partially available pursuant to the works scheduled.

In the first phase the on- and off ramp of Kecskemét West interchange in the direction of Budapest will be closed from 23^rd June to 30^th June 2021 due to the repair works.

Due to the works, the on- and off ramp of Kecskemét West interchange in the direction of Szeged will be closed from 1^st July to 8^th July 2021.

Access to the motorway is possible on a diverted route indicated by yellow traffic diversion signs with using main roads No. 52, 54 and 445.

With introducing speed limit, there will be two lanes ensured for the travellers in both directions, however, during asphalting works with closing the slow lane, there will be only one lane available for the travellers. The directed traffic routs will be indicated by yellow traffic signs for the travellers.

During the pavement reconstruction works the maximum speed will be limited to 60 and 80 km/h.

Road surface repair works continue on M5 Motorway in the area of Kecskemét

Road surface repair works are carried out on M5 Motorway in the area of Kecskemét between 29^th May and 23^rd June 2021 in the direction of Szeged between chainage 71 and 84 in two phases.

The works start on 29^th May 2021 between chainage 71 and 78, temporarily there will be one traffic lane available for the travellers in both directions during installing the traffic diversion. During the road surface repair works between chainage 71 and 78 from the direction of Szeged, one traffic lane will be diverted into the direction of Budapest, ensuring the two traffic lanes for the travellers travelling towards both directions. The traffic diversion continues in second phase of the works between chainage 75 and 84 between 10^th June and 23^rd June 2021 with still providing the two lane traffic capacity.

During the reconstruction works Hetény rest area, Kecskemét north interchange and Kecskemét north bypass interchanges are available for travellers.

The weigh station located at chainage 71 of M5 Motorway in the direction of Budapest will be closed until 8^th June 08:00 p.m. due to maintenance works.

The road surface repair works are expected to be finished foreseeably on 23^rd June 2021. During demolishing there will be temporarily one traffic lane available for travellers in each direction. During the pavement reconstruction works the maximum speed will be limited to 60 and 80 km/h.
