From 10th November 2025 due to interchange construction works, traffic on both sides of the M5 Motorway will continue to be diverted between chainage 101 and 104. Traffic in both directions will be able to move on two lanes, the previous lane narrowing will be removed. The emergency lanes will be closed on both sides of the motorway. A speed limit of 100 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section. The repair works are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

AKA Alföld Koncessziós Autópálya Ltd. and the M5 Motorway Operating Company, A-WAY Ltd. ensures the safety and smoothness of winter traffic with rigorous preparations. From 10th November, 2025, their maintenance fleet is fully ready to handle winter weather conditions, supported by regular road patrols and trained professionals. At three operation and maintenance centres – located near Újhartyán, Kiskunfélegyháza and Balástya – the vehicles and their adapters handling the winter maintenance works were prepared and passed the inspections.

AKA Alföld Koncessziós Autópálya Ltd. and the M5 Motorway Operating Company, A-WAY Ltd., carry out tasks instructed for winter operation in accordance with their legal obligations. The motorway and the maintenance fleet are all prepared to run seamlessly during the winter season. Training of the workforce has concluded in accordance with the operating regulations. An on-call service will be provided starting from 10th November up until 15th March. Depending on weather conditions, the duration of this service can be subject of change.

The winter maintenance of the 156,5-kilometre-long motorway section is managed by three operation and maintenance centres with the help of vehicles specifically adjusted to the winter operation period. De-icing and snow removal will be carried out by 12 dual-purpose vehicles. In addition, 6 multifunctional Unimogs capable of disseminating salt and ploughing, 3 for loading and if necessary, 4 additional rented vehicles can help with the winter operation of the motorway.

For the salting of the roads, the salt storage facilities of the maintenance centres provide 5840 tons of sodium chloride and 18 tons of calcium chloride. At each operation and maintenance centre, the service is managed in 12-hour shifts. The drivers also work in 12-hour shifts, while the dispatcher and road patrol service ensures smooth traffic conditions 24 hours a day.

In order to ensure accident-free and continuous traffic flow, the Operator regularly monitors road conditions every two hours during the day, and every four hours during the night. In order to increase traffic safety, a CCTV camera system continuously monitors traffic at interchanges and rest areas as well. Meteorological stations placed along the motorway relay the latest weather data every five minutes, which is complemented by satellite imagery of the National Meteorological Service updated every 15 minutes, thus the operation of each section is always based on the most up-to-date information.

In order to drive safely travelers may need to reduce their usual travel speed they have been accustomed to during the summer weather conditions.
Extreme weather conditions can further complicate the work the maintenance fleet carries out during winter. We ask motorists to exercise increased patience and caution.

Accident-free traffic does not solely depend on operators, it includes the collective effort of drivers as well as the condition of their vehicles. Especially during the winter, it is essential that drivers pay more attention to each other and prepare their vehicles for the winter. It is important that they adjust their usual travel speed to the weather conditions, as extreme winter weather can also be challenging for the maintenance fleet. The repairs will expectedly start on 28th October 2025 on the aforementioned section. During the road surface repair works on the M5 Motorway the traffic in the direction of Budapest between chainage 149 and 150 will be diverted partially into the emergency lane with closing the fast and the narrowed slow lane. The repair works are expected to be completed by 30th October 2025. A speed limit of 60 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section.

GANTRY BASE STRUCTURE HOISTING WORKS
Between 14th and 17th October, due to the construction of the M5-M44 interchange, full motorway closure will be implemented periodically on the M5 Motorway expectedly from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., while the gantry base structures are hoisted into their place. During the day on the main track two lanes are available for travelers twice in each direction. Between 14th and 16th October, the works will be carried out on the section from Szeged to the direction of Budapest, while on 17th October, the works continue on the section from Budapest to the direction of Szeged with lane closures. During the works, in addition to the existing lane closure, the slow lane will also be closed with ensuring mobile traffic diversion; travelers can only use the fast lane. During hoisting the gantry base structure full motorway closure will be effect on these sections.
On 16th and 17th October traffic entering the motorway in the direction of Budapest at Kecskemét North interchange will be periodically stopped. The weigh station will be closed from 16th October, 8:00 p.m. to 18th October, 8:00 a.m.
Between 19th and 21st October during the day, drivers can expect periodic mobile traffic diversions, which are expected to affect one traffic lane.

BRIDGEBEAM HOISTING WORKS
Between 14th and 16th October, expectedly from 06:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m., full motorway closure will be implemented under police supervision until the bridge beams are being hoisted their place. During the day on the main track two lanes are available for travelers twice in each direction. Solely during the bridge beam hoisting full motorway will be implemented periodically on the other side of the motorway, otherwise two traffic lanes will be available for travelers

The works are expected to be completed by 18th October 2025. A speed limit of 60 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section.
The works will be represented on the variable message signs (VMS), informing our passengers in advance.

On the M5 Motorway in the direction of Budapest the offramp of the Szeged south interchange as well as the Röszke rest area at chainage 173 will expectedly be closed between 29th September and 11th October 2025 due to road surface repair works. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

The repairs will expectedly start on 29th September 2025 on the aforementioned areas. On the M5 Motorway in the direction of Budapest the offramp of the Szeged south interchange as well as the Röszke rest area at chainage 173 will expectedly be closed due to road surface repair works. The rest area and its facilities remail available for travelers from both the motorway and from main road No. 5 during the maintenance works.
During this period leaving the M5 Motorway will be possible at the Szeged west interchange at chainage 166, where temporarily installed yellow signs guide travelers. Entering the motorway will be possible from main road No. 5 from the direction of Röszke.
Accessing a petrol station next to the motorway will be possible at the Szatymaz rest area located at chainage 151. A speed limit of 60 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section. The repair works are expected to be completed by 11th October 2025.

Noise barrier installation works will be carried out on the M5 Motorway in the proximity of Kecskemét between 22nd September and 22nd October 2025 in the direction of Szeged between chainage 84 and 86. During the road surface repair works, traffic will be diverted at the technical crossings between chainage 83 and 87. On the main track two lanes are available for travelers twice in each direction, except during the installation and dismantling of the diversion. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

The repairs will expectedly start on 22nd September 2025 on the aforementioned section. During the noise barrier installation works on the M5 Motorway the traffic in the direction of Szeged between chainage 83 and 87 will be temporarily diverted into the fast lane and into the fast lane of the opposite side, thus ensuring two available lanes for travelers in each direction on the motorway. A shortened stretch is provided for traffic leaving and entering the motorway for travelers heading towards Szeged at the Kecskemét west interchange at chainage 85. The installation works are expected to be completed by 22nd October 2025. Speed limits of 60 km/h and 80 km/h are to be expected within the aforementioned section.

All traffic on the M5 motorway in both directions will be periodically stopped under police control while the base bodies of the gantry structures are being hoisted into place. AKA Ltd. kindly asks road users to exercise patience due to the traffic restrictions caused by the repairs.

Between 16th and 19th September, due to the construction of the M5-M44 interchange, halfway motorway closure will be implemented on the M5 Motorway four times a day starting from expectedly 9:00 a.m., while the concrete base bodies of the gantry structures are hoisted into their place. On 16th and 17th September, Tuesday and Wednesday, the works will be carried out on the section from Budapest to the direction of Szeged, while on 18th and 19th September, Thursday and Friday, the closure will be in effect periodically from Szeged to the direction of Budapest.
The traffic diversion necessary for the works is extended to further sections, entering the motorway in the direction of Budapest is possible on a temporary fast lane at Kecskemét North interchange.
During the construction works, the slow lane in the proximity of the gantry structure construction will be closed, traffic will be diverted into the fast lane with mobile traffic diversion. During hoisting the gantry base halfway motorway closure will be effect on these sections.
The weigh station will also be closed between 18th and 20th September 2025.
The works are expected to be completed by 19th September 2025. A speed limit of 60 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section.

During the first phase of the road surface repair works the rest area will be partially accessible, but in the second phase between 12th September and 26th September 2025, it will be closed. During the first phase of the road surface repair works – between 6th and 11th September 2025 – roadside repairs with local restrictions will be carried out at the Petőfiszállás rest area located near chainage 122 km of the M5 Motorway in the direction of Budapest. The rest area will remain accessible for travelers. In the second phase of the works – between 12th September and 26th September 2025 – the Petőfiszállás rest area and petrol station will be closed. During this period accessing a petrol station next to the motorway will be possible at the Szatymaz rest area located at chainage 151 or at the Kecskemét south rest area located at chainage 91.
A speed limit of 100 km/h is to be expected within the aforementioned section. The repair works are expected to be completed by 26th September 2025.
